“The loss of an entire family is an unspeakable tragedy,”

A Colorado family of five has been killed in a head-on car crash, authorities said.

Two adults and three children died in the two-vehicle collision on a highway just south of Kremmling on the morning of Monday, Aug. 4.

“The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to become completely engulfed in flames,” the coroner’s office said. “First responders arrived quickly but despite heroic efforts, the family did not survive.”

All five family members were Kremmling residents and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims as Andres Cabral-Banuelos, 2, Manuel Cabral-Banuelos, 5, Maria Cabral-Banuelos, 12, Andrea Banuelos-Salazar, 30, and Manuel Cabral-Torres, 34.

“The loss of an entire family is an unspeakable tragedy, and our hearts are with all who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time,” the coroner’s office said. Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

Colorado State Patrol said the family was driving in a GMC Yukon SUV while a 25-year-old man was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck that switched from the northbound to southbound lane before hitting the family’s car head-on, NBC affiliate KUSA reported. The 25-year-old man driver experienced life-threatening injuries.

“Despite Colorado’s downward trend for fatal crashes this year, these past two months have been devastating for the loved ones and communities left behind due to violent head-on collisions,” said Trooper Hunter Mathews from Colorado State Patrol in a statement.
